Introduction

I cannot remember what I did with my spare time before Additive manufacturing (3D printing) before I stumbled upon 3D printing. Actually, I do!! My weekday job gradually ‘spilled’ into my weekend!! I am a lot wiser as my time allocation to work and personal life now has boundaries!!

Oh, Just in case you are wondering, I have changed my domain name from ‘Spearking.com’ to ‘Lifeofadocpreneur.com’. The change made sense as the new name is now a trade-mark and I didn’t want anyone beating me to it.

If you have read my previous posts, it is pretty obvious that I am a fan of 3D printing AKA additive manufacturing. https://lifeofadocpreneur.com/blog/

It will come as no surprise that I saved up to purchase a 3D printer. Was it money well invested? Good heavens….Oh Yes!!

Newly developed Passion

Lady Corona has made everyone think differently. Most of all, people have now embraced new hobbies and expanded their passion for life, love and hobbies. We now spend time on what is most precious to us. These passion might be people, hobbies or connecting to a higher power. Whatever it is for you, I hope that your life is filled with love and happiness due to your new-found passion. For me, my new found passion is blogging and 3D printing (Additive Manufacturing).

3 Reasons Why 3D Printing is Addictive❤️

1) ‘Think it; Print itwith additive manufacturing:

Like most of us, I have had ideas in the past of products that I wish someone would make. In hindsight, I should have written down the ideas. The MSc programme taught me two major skills: How to use Fusion 360 and a 3D printer. Both skills are major enablers for me. Fusion 360 enables me to draw my ideas in 3D, It does not matter what the idea is. Also, with Fusion 360, I can create and design. Remember, I am a medic, not an engineer.

With the 3D printer, these designs come to life within hours or days. I don’t have to rely on a manufacturer or a designer to do this for me. Cosmetic cradle is my first creation. Please visit my shop on the home menu to take a look. A design that took 24hrs from ‘Think it’ to ‘Print it’ was my photo flags 😎. I needed to put up additional photos in my office without drilling more holes in the wall. I had a simple and easy idea. Done and dusted in under 24 hours. If you have any ideas, additive manufacturing can bring it to life.

2) Real-time prototyping with additive manufacturing:

With all new products, there are many versions (Prototypes) before the final one. Previously, you would send your designs to a company (some invisible location) to manufacture. It would take a few days or weeks to get back to you. You would then make a few alterations and send back. This cycle continues until you are satisfied. By this time, your idea has been stolen if you have not acquired intellectual property rights. If you have direct access to a 3D printer (Additive manufacturing), perhaps a paid service, this time is cut down. However, for people like me with personal 3D printers, well…..I can make many versions of my design within 24 hours. The finished product will be in my hands the next day. How cool is that?😎

3) I am cool with the kids 🤟:

My precious person has fun with my 3D Printer too. Recently, there was face mask competition in school. We printed a mold to create fangs. A hot glue gun was used to fill the mould. The filling was done about 40 times 😬, we printed only one mould (pure dedication!!!). The end result will scare you; pictures below. However, you would not guess 3D printing had a part to play.

Take home message: 3D printing is my intelligent distraction, what’s yours? https://lifeofadocpreneur.com/2020/08/01/you-need-to-develop-intelligent-distractions/
